Problem: People get pets without any knowledge of how to look after them
Insight: If people knew how much work/ money is needed for a pet beforehand they would be more prepared for getting an animal.
Strategy: Show people what they need to know through a pet trial app before they get the pet
Around 80% of the UK is thought to have no idea how to care for the basic needs of animals.
The RSPCA will create a pet trial app. Meaning you can learn all the basics through experience before having to be responsible for any pet, potentially putting it in harm's way unintentionally.
This will be advertised to parents of kids who want pets, with the intention of helping both of them get ready for a new pet.

The New App
This app will be heavily recommended by the RSPCA to be installed 1 week/ month prior to getting a pet.

Features:
Exercise -  This will get you in the habit of going for a walk every day. A GPS tracker will also let you know how far you have gone and how much is recommended for that pet.
Feeding – At the end of each week you can see the money you would have spent, so you can incorporate that into your accounts.
Playing - Games/ fetch/ ect. You can also play with other people’s pets who have the app.
Training – Giving you tips and tricks on how best to.
Health – During the month there will be a situation that results in you needing to get to the nearest vets (you will get reimbursed for the fuel for this trip).
Print
They will be located: outside RSPCA buildings/ bus shelters/ around parks and in magazines (Happy Families/ National Geographic Kids/ ect).
Statues
Nationwide where there are RSPCA buildings close there will be little pixel statues of what the app can help you do.
Gift Cards
The cards will be available at any supermarket near the gift cards (they will be free).
These cards will also have a photo on the front of loads of different animals so you can pick the right one for you.
Kennel Cards
Located in all RSPCA adoption areas.
